A benign inflammatory process in the breast that may mimic breast cancer. This disorder can look like a cancer with a mammogram and an ultrasound and many times a piece of the tissue is needed to confirm the diagnosis. Breast fat necrosis is most common after surgery, radiation therapy or breast trauma.Symptoms
Painless mass, painful mass, skin puckering, bruising, hardened skin (induration).Tests & Diagnostics
A history and physical exam will be performed. Additional tests include: a mammogram and/or ultrasound, a biopsy either with a needle or surgically.Common tests: Ultrasound.
