About Sialolithiasis (salivary gland stone)
A stone blocking the duct of one of the three salivary glands of the mouth. The cause is unknown. The patient experiences pain and swelling of the gland.Symptoms
Pain, swelling, redness, pain that increases with eating.Tests & Diagnostics
A history and physical exam will be performed. The diagnosis is usually made by palpating the stone in the duct. At times further testing is needed.Common tests: CT Scan, MRI.

Conventional treatment summary
Removal of the stone. If an infection is present antibiotics will be given. Patients are encouraged to suck on lemon drops to encourage saliva flow.Medical specialties
