Menopause

About Menopause

A stage of a woman's life where the ovaries do not produce enough estrogen to maintain normal menstrual cycles. It often begins with irregular menstrual cycles. Menopause officially starts 12 months after the last menstrual period. It occurs most commonly between 40 and 55 years of age. Declining levels of estrogen cause many of the symptoms.

Symptoms

Decreased sex drive, hot flashes, skin flushing, night sweats, insomnia, vaginal dryness and painful sexual intercourse. Women in menopause have accelerated bone loss that can lead to osteoporosis.
