About Atypical pneumonia (lung infection)
Pneumonia caused by certain bacteria -- namely, Legionella pneumophila, Mycoplasma pneumonia, and Chlamydia pneumonia. These pneumonias are usually mild and sometimes called walking pneumonia. Despite this name these infections can be fatal especially when caused by Legionella.Symptoms
Cough, fever, shortness of breath, fatigue, chest pain, rash, diarrhea.Tests & Diagnostics
A history and physical exam will be performed. A chest X-ray will be taken to diagnose the pneumonia. When appropriate a sputum culture is obtained to isolate the exact organism.Common tests: X-ray.

Antibiotics are necessary for treatment and the following usually have activity against the offending organisms: erythromycin, azithromycin (Z-Pac), clarithromycin (Biaxin), fluoroquinolones and their derivatives (such as levofloxacin), and tetracyclines (such as doxycycline).Medical specialties
