About Brain tumor (cancer)
An abnormal growth within the brain and skull. It can be benign or cancerous (malignant). Even benign tumors can be life threatening depending on their location causing compression and/or elevation of the pressure in the brain (hydrocephalous). Malignant tumors can arise from cells of the brain, such as astrocytomas, or from cells transported to the brain through the blood stream or lymphatic system (metastases).Symptoms
Headache, seizure, vomiting, weakness, slurred speech, double vision, confusion.Tests & Diagnostics
A history and physical exam will be performed. A head CT or MRI is done to diagnose the tumor. A biopsy may be required to identify the type of tumor.Common tests: CT Scan, MRI.
