About Finger pulp infection (felon)
A bacterial infection involving the pad of the finger tip that causes swelling and pain. Sometimes the infection can progress into a collection of pus called an abscess. This infection can be caused by small punctures of the finger pad or associated with infections of the nail bed (paronychia). The most common causes of this infection are staphylococcus aureus and streptococcus bacteria.Symptoms
Pain, swelling, pus, redness, increased warmth, red streaks up arm.Tests & Diagnostics
A history and physical exam will be performed. No other tests are generally necessary.Prescription medications
