About Hemophilia (inherited bleeding disorder)
A bleeding disorder that may be caused by one of several blood clotting factor deficiencies. Classic Hemophilia, or Hemophilia A, is caused by a deficiency of factor VIII. Hemophilia B, (Christmas disease), occurs with a deficiency of factor IX. These diseases are usually genetic and usually occur only in males. Due to mutations, new cases can arise in families with no history of the disorder. Hemophilia can cause dangerous episodes of bleeding.Symptoms
Blood in stool, easy bruising, heavy periods, bleeding gums, bleeding in joints.Tests & Diagnostics
A history and physical exam will be performed. Factor studies are completed to diagnose the specific clotting disorder.Common tests: Complete blood count (CBC), Comprehensive metabolic panel (CMP).
Conventional treatment summary
