About Bone metastases (cancer)

Cancer that spreads to the bones. The most commonly affected sites are the spine, pelvis, skull and ribs. These cancers spread from the original site of the cancer (primary cancer) to the bones by traveling through the blood or lymphatic channels. The most common cancers that spread to the bones are prostate cancer, breast cancer, and lung cancer.

Symptoms

Bone pain, spontaneous fractures (pathologic fractures), weakness.

Tests & Diagnostics

A history and physical exam will be performed. Blood tests and imaging will be done to determine the extent of the metastases.

Common tests: Complete blood count (CBC), Comprehensive metabolic panel (CMP), CT Scan, MRI, X-ray.

Conventional treatment summary
