About Mouth swelling

Mouth swelling can result from inflammation, infection, allergic reaction, medication reaction or cancer. Inflammation can be caused by trauma, or an autoimmune disease.

Symptoms

Pain, swelling, pus, redness, increased warmth.

Tests & Diagnostics

A history and physical exam will be performed. Depending on the history an x-ray, CT scan, and/or a biopsy may be done.

Common tests: CT Scan, X-ray.

Depends on the cause of the swelling but may include: Acetaminophen (Tylenol), nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications/NSAIDs (ibuprofen/Motrin or Advil, naproxen/Naprosyn or Aleve), other anti-inflammatory medications, and/or antibiotics.
