Swelling of the ear can arise from trauma, inflammation, an allergic reaction, or infection. Ear swelling from trauma can result in permanent disfigurement called a cauliflower ear if the disorder is not treated appropriately.Symptoms
Ear pain, ear swelling, redness, increased warmth, fever.Tests & Diagnostics
A history and physical exam will be performed. Lab tests may be done to rule out infection or inflammation. A CT scan or MRI may be performed as well to determine the underlying cause of the swelling.Common tests: Complete blood count (CBC), Comprehensive metabolic panel (CMP), CT Scan, MRI.
