About Septal perforation (nasal septal hole)

A hole (perforation) in the nasal septum, the tissue that separates the nostrils. Common causes include: previous nasal surgery, previous nasal fracture, frequent use of nasal steroid sprays, and other causes.

Symptoms

Frequent nasal crusting, nose bleeding, whistling while breathing, nasal obstruction, runny nose.

Tests & Diagnostics

A history and physical exam will be performed. The diagnosis is made by directly examining the nose.

Treatment ranges from saline sprays to surgical repair.
