About Priapism (persistent erection)
A painful and persistent erection of the penis. It can occur without sexual arousal. It is a rare, but serious condition. It requires immediate treatment to prevent permanent injury and impotence. The most common causes are sickle cell anemia, self-injected medications used for erectile dysfunction, and more rarely other medications used for impotence such as sildenafil (Viagra).Symptoms
