About Adenoiditis (lymph node inflammation)
An inflammation of the adenoid tissue (lymph node tissue) in the back of the nose and throat. The most common cause of the inflammation is an infection. Infections can be caused by bacteria such as group A streptococcus (`strep`) or a virus such as infectious mononucleosis. Viral infections do not respond to antibiotics and are treated symptomatically.Symptoms
Throat pain and swelling, difficulty swallowing, problems breathing, fever.Tests & Diagnostics

Antibiotics are prescribed if the cause is bacterial. Additional therapy includes: nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications/NSAIDs (ibuprofen/Motrin or Advil, naproxen/Naprosyn), acetaminophen (Tylenol), and observation.Medical specialties
