Astigmatism (vision defect)

About Astigmatism (vision defect)

Atigmatism is an irregularity of the shape of the cornea (the clear part of the eye over the iris and lens). The irregular shape results in the scattering of light instead of focusing of light in a direct beam on the lens causing blurred vision. Many people have some degree of astigmatism and it is thought that the condition is hereditary. Atigmatism often occurs with other vision conditions such as nearsightedness (myopia).
