About Rhinosporidiosis (fungal nasal infection)
An infection that occurs in the nose caused by the fungus, Rhinosporidium seeberi. It produces a nasal mass that slowly enlarges over months or years. With time it may cause airway obstruction. Although there have been cases in the United States it is most often seen in India and Sri Lanka.Symptoms
Nose bleeds, nasal fullness, persistently runny nose, foreign body sensation in the nose.Tests & Diagnostics
A history and physical exam will be performed. The diagnosis is made by identifying the fungus under a microscope. A biopsy is taken for this test.Conventional treatment summary
