Valsalva maneuver

About Valsalva maneuver

A maneuver that is performed by forcibly exhaling against a closed airway. This maneuver increases the pressure in the thoracic cavity with a resultant decrease in the venous blood return to the heart. The decreased blood return causes a decrease in the amount of blood pumped by the heart. The person experiences a decrease in blood pressure, light-headedness and possibly fainting.

Symptoms

Light-headedness, fainting.
