About Anaphylactoid reactions (pseudo allergic reaction)

Not a true allergic reaction. Anaphylactoid reactions are caused by the release of histamine and can result in a spectrum of symptoms from a rash to life threatening anaphylaxis. Intravenous contrast dye and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen are two well-described causes.

Symptoms

Rash, itching, throat swelling, facial swelling, wheezing, shortness of breath, dizziness or fainting from low blood pressure.

Tests & Diagnostics

A history and physical exam will be performed to determine the offending agent.

Common tests: X-ray.
